If you like 'em rare, it be!! -- For sale is a VERY early Ansonia steeple clock with the original Terry and Andrews movement in excellent condition. The Ansonia Clock Company was formed by the partnership of Theodore Terry, Franklin C. Andrews, & Anson G. Phelps. Terry and Andrews were one of the most successful clock making partnerships, before they were persuaded to move to Derby, Ct. by Phelps. The name Derby was changed to Ansonia, after Anson Phelps. Being thrifty New Englanders, they threw nothing useable away. Hence, we find some Terry and Andrews movements in Ansonia clocks. The Ansonia factory burned down in 1854 and the business disbanded. Another company by the same name was founded 23 years later. This movement is right for the case. This clock is circa 1850. The case measures 20" x 9 ¾" x 4", is very attractive and in good condition. The bottom mirror is a replacement. The case is mahogany veneer, with minor repairs and chips. Overall, the condition is in fine shape. The label is 99.44% intact. The movement is a Terry & Andrews, 8-day T & S lyre movement, in running order. The Lyre mechanism is a very desirable, collectable movement. The hands, pendulum and dial are all period and believed original to the case. The dial has some light soiling and very minor paint loss, but I excellent condition considering the age. read more
