This is the most gorgeous 10-piece set of Austrian hand painted fish dinnerware. It is circa 1880 and contains 9 plates measuring 8.75 inches in diameter and one large serving platter that is 19 inches long and 13 inches wide. Each plate has a different fish and are surrounded by six, purple luster maple leaves. The outside of each piece in scalloped with a gilt pattern. The bottom of each piece is marked "M.Z. Austria" or Hapsburg Austria and "Austria" each with the symbol of the maker (see photo). They are in excellent condition for their age. T is only one chip that I can find on one plate, one surface crack on the bottom of another and some of the "leaf" decoration has worn off. MZ Austria is the wording on a mark used by Moritz Zdekauer on porcelains made at his works in Altrolau, Austria, from 1884 to 1909. The mark was changed to MZ Altrolau in 1909, when the firm was purchased by C.M. Hutschenreuther. The pieces were decorated with lavish floral patterns and overglaze gold decoration. Full sets of dishes were made as well as vases, toilet sets, and other wares. This set is of the rarity and quality that should retail of at the very least $1,200 in an distinctive antiques shop!
