A Stunning antique Persian Sultanabad Mahal Circa 1930 Descriptions:
This auction is for a late 1930's Sultanabad Mahal, the Mahal area falls within the boundaries of the province Markazi (central Persia). It is a region of great interest to carpet enthusiasts, as many beautifully designed pieces originate from Sultanabad (now known as Arak) was the administrative capital during the 19th century. The Sultanabad, Feraghan and Sarouk area were heavily involved in the production of carpets on a cottage industry basis during this period. These Sultanabad carpets are distinguished by all over large scale lattice vine patterns surrounded by wide borders. Medallions are rarely seen. This is a 1940's maybe even earlier Sultanabad Mahal which is in excellent condition for its age and measures 9'-3" x12'-8". These rugs are highly demanded in today's market and most of the pattern of today's reproduction carpets were inspired from these designs.
