Boy. When I decided to list this locket necklace of my grandmother's, I did at least two weeks worth of googling around various websites, from ebay to Ruby Lane to Go Antiques to independent webpages of jewelers who specialize in estate pieces. Granted, one could say I'm biased, since this WAS my grandmother's, but even if I could look at it with an unbiased eye, I'd come to the same conclusion. That she had exceptional taste in her possessions, which has been so evident in her china, her collectables, and particularly in her jewelry. This is SUCH a beautiful piece. Antique or otherwise. My grandmother was born in the 1860's, to an affluent Oshkosh family. When exactly this locket was purchased or made for her, I can't say, but judging by the style, I'm guessing late 1890's to early 1910. The picture is of her second husband, who she adored, I left it in for the photographs but would like to remove it before it goes to it's new owner for them to replace with their loved ones. The chain is 14kt gold, with what six inlaid sections done in blue and white enamel, that match the locket. So incredibly well done! From what I researched, this sort of enamel inlay work was painstakingly done and highly coveted at that time. For good reason. Look how well it has held up through the ages. Remarkable! It's extraordinary condition. Not a flaw. This locket has been stored away since her death more than half a century ago. The locket measures 1 1/16th inch in diameter, is marked 14kt inside. Her monogram is engraved on one side, the other side is so feminine and lovely with the diamonds in a sort of floral pattern, encircled with white and blue enamel in the prettiest shade of blue. The necklace has a drop of 16 inches to the triangular section which has it's own diamond to match the diamonds on the locket. From that triangular section is a two inch drop to the locket so the overall length of this spectacular antique gorgeous necklace is about 19 inches. Such ornamental detail work done. I put up LOTS of pictures so hopefully you can really see how exquisite the workmanship on this lovely estate piece is. What a treasure to have! I'm getting a weight of 16.5 grams for the entire necklace/locket. As you can see, the locket can be detached if need be. I'd love to see this go to a home where it will be cherished. It just makes no sense for it to be hidden away here, not seen. It's too special for that. Thank you.
I am putting down "no international shipping", but I would be willing to if we could work out the correct cost for shipping and insurance, since I've run into problems in the past with insuring on high end items to certain countries. So if you're outside the US and want to bid, best to contact me first so we can make sure it's doable. Thanks.
