This is an interesting find from a fine estate sale in New York City. It is a very old Wedgwood green dip elongated octagonal placque featuring two of Wedgwood's classical bas-relief Greek Goddesses separated by a basket of flowers. We removed the paper backing to see the markings on the back and there is only the word "wedgwood" as shown in the photos. The original paper backing will be included with the sale of this item. From our limited research, this piece is probably quite old, perhaps from the late 1700's/very early 1800's since only the word "Wedgwood" appears. The last "d" in Wedgwood is not apparent. There is no reference to "England" nor date. We also cannot find any letters or numbers on the back. These flat plaques were often commissioned by customers and adorned walls/woodwork and various chests in the home, so this particular piece might have been on the wall of an English manor at some point. The jasperware plaque is held in place with brass pins and we have not attempted to remove the piece from the wood frame so we do not know what the sides of the plaque look like except that they are white, like the back.
