An antique leather bound and gilt tooled book dated 1765 entitled A Collection of Poems Volume Six. The title page reads as follows: " A collection of Poems in Six Volumes by Several Hands. London: Printed by J. Hughs, For J. Dodsley, in Pall-Mall. MDCCLXV". The contents include: " Ode to Cupid on Valentine's Day by the same, The Dropsical Man by Mr W. Taylor, Paradise Regain'd by H.T., Hymn to the Naiads by Dr. Akenside, The Lyric Muse to Mr Mason, Ode to the Tiber Written Abroad by William Whitehead Esq., Ode to the Right Reverend Benjamin Lord Bishop of Winchester, On the Birthday of Shakespear a Cento Taken From His Works, To Mr. Garrick on His Erecting a Temple and Statue to Shakespear, Ode to the Genius of Italy, to a Lady on a Landscape of her Drawing by Mr. Parrat, Dialogue to Chlorinda by Mr. Alsop", and many others.The book is in a well used and worn condition, the leather binding is scuffed and marked and the front cover has become detached from the spine and although it has its original red leather date inset, it is missing its two title insets to the spine. Inside the pages are clear and legible but it does have the usual foxing and age related wear and marks associated with a book of this great age.
