THIS ITEM WILL BE POSTED FROM LONDON, UK. MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE 18/19 C SCRIMSHAW CARVED COCONUT & SILVER FLASK I have a good number of interesting antiques for sale this week including a superb Norwegian burr birch lidded box / salt; a fine Fijian / Tongan pole club; and a rare Scottish fruitwood snuff box so please have a look at my other auctions. This auction is for the finest carved coconut flask I have seen. The work of a sailor or prisoner it dates to the late 18th or early 19th Century and is in wonderful condition. Almost certainly of French origin it is carved in typical 'empire' fashion with military symbols, swags and weapons of war in three cartouches around the body with a typical bugbear face. The eyes are inlaid with small turqouise beads and the whole piece has been mounted in solid silver (and it is remarkable that this is all t as usually this is almost always missing). This is a magnificent example of coconut carving offered at a very very low starting price and with no reserve so good luck with the bidding. Please read down the entire listing for Dimensions, Condition, Postage & Payment Details - most of the information you will need is on this page but please get in touch if you don't find what you are looking for. Condition & Dimensions Excellent condition. No damage. It measures about 5.5" / 14cms long. read more
