I HAVE JUST PURCHASED THE CONTENTS OF AN OLD FARM HOUSE AND BARN TO SETTLE AN ESTATE. Up for auction is this hard to find ANTIQUE 1800'S CANDY SCALE THAT IS TAGGED & COMPLETE. This came out of the Estate. Measures 12 3/4" wide by 6 1/2" tall by 6 3/4" deep without the brass pan. Made of cast iron with a solid brass bar and candy pan, original 1 lb. weight and t is also a 2 lb weight that was with it which was with it and could be one that was added to weigh something else and so I am leaving it with it. This scale has beautiful gold and deep maroon accents on the base in different places which is hard to capture in the pictures. T is also a beautiful gold design that is on the tray w the weights go that shows some normal wear from the weights being put on and off. This scale is in excellent condition showing minimal normal wear. The only thing I notice is that w the brass pan sits t were probably 4 rounded rubbers in which 1 is t and hard with age and three are missing probably dried out and fell out wit age. These scales were licensed to each vendor by a state scale inspector that would come around every once in a while and test the scale to insure its accuracy. After it was tested and passed the inspector would attatch a brass tag with a small leaded weight to indicate the scale was certified for commercial use. This scale is complete with this tag that has the leaded weight that on one side has a raised 23 on one side and WA on the other, and below this is a brass tag that reads DEPARTMENT OF WEIGHTS AND MEAURES, TESTED AND SEALED and on the other side is embossed 11WAL23, and this is all attatched to the middle base of the scale. I think this is probably the month, place the machine was located and date of inspection. This scale was probably located in an old Mom and Pop grocery store. With a little research I am sure it could be traced. This scale is in excellent condition with no cracks or breaks and normal wear useage other than 3 rubbers that can be purchased at a hardware store and replaced, but I will leave.this up to the buyer as well as cleaning it. Don't miss this one as to find one complete and in excellent condition is becoming rare. NO RESERVE. I can ship this item for $10.00 anyw in the US.
