I recently acquired a 46 year old large collection of over 600 antique brass, silver, cast iron, wood bells etc. from an Elderly gentleman from Carson City. There are several types of bells from hand bells, call desk bells, church bells, priest/temple bells, gong bells, door bells, cow and other animal bells etc. Many of the bells in this collection are from all over the world and many are rare and hard to find and some bells I have never seen before. Listed here for your consideration is an Antique 1800's-Early 1900's Shakujo Septer With Rings Used By Buddhists Saints And Priests. This bell is a about 10 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide weighs 9 ounces. According to the previous owners notes, the Shakujo is a staff, either long or short shaped at the top like a Tokko which metal rings are loosely attached. It is carried by Buddhists, Saints and Priests when walking in meditation in the fields. The clanking of the rings gives warning to insects and other insects etc. lest they should be crushed by the holy one. This bell is in fully intact and in excellent shape for it's age with the exception of the septer being a little loose on the wood handle but can be repaired. This is a great piece of history and a must have for the avid collector. Don't let this one get away! Please see photos to determine condition for yourself and read more
