This is a Rare Early Antique Slave Wooden Dough Bowl from South Carolina, circa 1800s. This is such a Rare Find and we are so happy to have this for your consideration. The Antique Dough Bowl was used by Slaves in the South as a Dough Bowl for food and cooking preparation and was a galley mainstay. These Handmade Wooden Bowls were not simply utilitarian but maintained a sense of tribute and respect for the wood, the maker, and the process of creation and receiveing of the frutis of such a creation. The Wooden Dough Bowl was had hewn from one solid piece of wood and you can see the beautiful primitive carving style on the Rare Slave Dough Bowl. The Antique Dough Bowl is very lightweight as it is a very early primitive. The Antique Wooden Slave Bowl has two wide half rounded handles that extend outward from the rim of the large deep dough bowl. The Antique Slave Dough Bowl has a wonderful age old patina with lots of worm holes that grace this large rare primitive. There is a very slight age crack, as shown in the photos, that was repaired at some point in time that is barely visable. This is to be expected from a wooden dough bowl of this age as it was used so heavily and so many did not survive the years. This does not diminish the character or beauty of this age old bowl.
