This beautiful antique writing lap desk is of English origin and I believe is from the early to mid 1800's. The chest nestles unattatched in the stand. It features a beautiful brass gold star in the center with four brass corner pieces, and another brass star in front. The interior is of a green leather with gold etching. This is a beautiful original piece, although I have reason to believe the leather interior was a restoration. I am unsure of the wood type, though it is definitely solid hardwood. T are some shallow scratches outside that do not penetrate the clear coat, the leather has a frayed part at the crease, and t's a small 1/2'' piece broken off the frame on the interior. The bottom of the chest has some old cracks that do not compromise the structural soundness. Also, the clear coat is wearing thin around the star; which is a natural side effect of its age. This is overall a beautiful piece developing a charming patina.
