ANTIQUE FUR TRADE BUTCHER PATTERN KNIFE , Circa 1830s-1860s. Early Cutlery of this Pattern was used by Native Americans and Frontiersmen throughout the American Fur Trade in the West for the Butchering of Wild Game like Buffalo and Elk. This Fine Example of English Cutlery is Stamped with a Touchmark of a " English Judge wearing a wig, with the words " FOR YOURSELF" meaning Judge for Yourself with " JOSEPH MILLS 96 SCOTLAND ST SHEFFIELD " stamped on the Blade. The Touchmark Stamping is highly detailed [ Note see images for further detail ]. The Knife measures 17 1/2" long overall, The blade measures 12" long. The Handle is made of Box or Beech wood secured by 4 brass pins and 1 large brass Cutlers rivet. The handle is in good condition for its age and is very Solid.
