This is a beautiful miniature soup tureen. The tureen itself is about 4 and 1/2 inches high ( without the lid) the plate is 7 and 1/2 inches across. It's supposed to be a soup tureen "for two" I purchased it from a lady from Scotland and she said it was her Grandfathers and that he probably got it from his mother around 1853 or so. It's transferware with a really pretty design called "Italian Lakes" Some Italian buildings and such on the front and little people on the lid. T is a hair line fracture on the lid w it appears to have been glued a very long time ago and the ladle has a small amount of staining on the side w you can see the glaze has been worn as it was being used, scraping the bottom and such. The color is kind of interesting as it's not your typical blue transferware, it's actually more grey/green. As you can see by the picture it's Italian Lakes J& M.P.B and Co. made. This company was is business from 1842 to 1929 and has a pretty neat history. They are out of Glastco Scotland. Some of these pottery pieces are pretty pricey and because this one is so unusual ( with it being only for two people) it's quite rare. I would be happy to share the history/names of the owners to the buyer as I know stories make the items worth more. I don't have much ...but enough to give it some origin. I really don't want to sell it because
