1858 Masonic Manual Book

This auction is for a rare pre-Civil War Masonic book dating to the year 1858.

This incredible book contains rituals, ceremonies, documents, songs, etc. T is information on the Knights Templars, Knights of the Red Cross, and Knights of Malta. Towards the back, t is a Masonic Calendar and a section showing all of the Masonic symbols. Indeed, a truly fascinating read! The book is profusely illustrated with approximately 300 fantastic engravings.

The title page reads as follows :

THE

MASONIC MANUAL.

A POCKET COMPANION FOR THE INITIATED:

CONTAINING THE

RITUALS OF FREEMASONRY,

EMBRACED IN THE DEGREE OF THE

LODGE CHAPTER AND ENCAMPMENT:

EMBELLISHED WITH

FORMS OF MASONIC DOCUMENTS, NOTES,
SONGS, DATES, ETC.

COMPILED AND ARRANGED

BY ROBERT MACOY,

PAST MASTER, PAST GRAND SECRETAR., PAST GRAND COMMANDER,
GRAND RECORDER, ETC.

FIFTEENTH EDITION.

NEW YORK:
CLARK & MAYNARD,
5 BARCLAY, ST.

A highly secretive book obviously intended for members only, t are no markings or lettering on the spine or covers as discretion was necessary. The book looks to be leather bound and the end pages are finished in gilt. It appears that originally t was an extension on the remaining exterior right hand flap that would have fastened to the cover, much like an ordinary diary of the time period.

The book is in very good condition for its age of nearly 150 years. T is age wear to the covers and spine, however, the pages remain strongly bound. The interior pages are all fully legible and clear. T are no tears or missing pages. T is minor aging to the pages and a few with pencil markings. T are approximately 334 pages and the book measures about 3 1/4" x 4 3/4".

A rare and historic piece sure to be treasured by any collector!
