This is a fantastic antique Gutta Percha Frame dating from the 1860's. Gutta Percha is made from a resin from trees native to Southeast Asia and is a natural form of rubber or resin. It was introduced into the Western Culture in 1843. You would have to look hard to find one in such fine condition. The picture of the gentleman is probably from the 40's and since I do not want to force anything I will simply leave it in the frame. Frame is 5 1/2" by 6 1/2" and the inside measurements are 4" by 3". It is decorated with a floral design and on each side which appears to be some sort of melons perhaps. Beautiful!
