Antique 14kt gold Fraternity Pin Tested as 14kt gold with acid and gel (not stamped) Some minor wear to black enameling on front from age and use Front states; in greek letters "Phi Kappa" with 2 crossed swords and "DiChado" Back states: in script writing "Jos. B. Cheshire", in triangle "1867", in block letters that i believe to also be greek "Gamma Rho Mu" (may be initials TPM with the left top side of T missing) Antique "C" clasp Brooch measures approx. 19mm wide x 16mm long and is shaped like a shield. This is the information i found on an internet search: Phi Kappa was started in 1862 so this brooch is from very close to the origin of the fraternity." Jos.B. Cheshire" (Joseph B. Cheshire) was one of 6 generations of famous lawyers with the same name. T were a very large amount of links in a yahoo search for that name. You might want to check some of them out. This antique pin does have scratches, tarnish and some enamel wear from age (143 years old). Pin stem functions well. This is a wonderful collectable with historical significance.
