ANTIQUE PIECED QUILT c. 1870-1880 "Amish Center Diamond"Pattern 69" x 83" (as best I can tell...I didn't want to spread the quilt out to get absolutely precise measurements, so I left it folded and went around the edges with my tape measure. Measurements are close to correct, but may be an inch off one way or the other) This quilt has certainly seen some use. It has been in storage in an old steamer trunk for the past ... probably 20 years now. It smells like it's been in storage, but there were no moth balls so that smell isn't there. Just "old storage" smell. I don't know how to clean an item this old, and I don't think it's up to being tossed into the washer. History of this quilt: It was made by some relative on my father's side of the family, Aunt Somebody-Or-Other to my grandmother. That's how I know the approximate years for the original construction of this quilt because for years I heard my mother say, "Don't use that quilt! It was made back around 1875 by your grandmother's old Aunt ... Somebody-Or-Other."| For as long as I've known this quilt, it's looks about like it does in the pictures. Faded. Fabric is worn. Thread may be very weak. It's fragile. But it looks pretty good, I think, for something past 130 years old. If you bid on and win this quilt, just remember: DON'T USE IT. It was made by old Aunt... whatever her name was. Quilt is sold "AS IS" and is not returnable. (I am sincerely trying to downsize.) I try to ship as soon as possible after receipt of payment.
