SQUARE FORMAT KEYHOLE GROUP ANTIQUE CAUCASIAN SEWAN KAZAK. Last quarter of the 19th century. Exact size: 4'-6' x 5'-10" (137 x 178 cm). A boldly drawn old Kazak village rug in great condition with 100% natural vegetal-derived dyes and a powerful presence. The color palette mimics the two similarly drawn early Sewan examples published by Ian Bennett, both assigned a 2nd half of the 19th century date. Refer to: "Oriental Rugs Volume 1 Caucasian", 1981, plate 14 and 16, page 33 and 35. Exact size: 4'-6"x5'-10" (137 x 178 cm). The square format and single wide border surround are indicative of early weavings. I had the very top and bottom red & yellow stripe pin borders expertly rewoven in places and sewn back secure to prevent loss to make the ragged ends, and the carpet as a whole, more eye appealing to the viewer. This masterful restoration is difficult to find. NO rips, holes, tears, moth damage, stains, odors, or other problems. Collection ready. It will make a stunning display as a wall hanging or floor rug in any home or office environment. A great village textile artifact weaving for the collector.
