Up for auction is: A small antique Royal Vitreous tureen made in the 1880's by John Maddock & Sons of Burslem, England. This tureen is in great shape with no chips. I have dated this item to the 1880's because of the bottom mark. You can verify this information at /mark/m/maddock.html . Like the Beleek company, this company changed its marks from time to time, so you can reasonably date them to a span of 10 years or so. This piece is just beautiful. It is a lovely off white with handles that look like a serpent with waves at the ends. They are quite intricate. The lid has a groove for a ladle to rest in. T is some discoloration to the top part of the handle on the lid, and also around the inside lip of the tureen. I think this is just from age. The tureen (without the lid) measures 7 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide, and 2 1/2 inches deep. This is a very elegant piece and would be perfect for any collection. -=- IN CLOSING...
