Here for your bidding consideration is this original family owned George McConnell oil on board painting of a little boy during the victorian era as seen signed in the bottom left corner Geo McConnell dated 1889. Although the signature is hard to read it is there. This painting is an original oil on board signed by a well known listed Maine artist. This painting is quite folky as seen and the little boy is aged 2-3 years and he is quite charming. George McConnell 1852-1929 was born in Steubenville OH in 1852 and died in Portland, Maine in 1929. He studied portraiture in Philadelphia and New York. He also studied landscape painting with George Inness and continued his art training at the academy Julien in Paris. In 1883 at age of thirty one, McConnell settled in Portland Maine and did comercial work that he sold at various hotels and resorts. He painted a great variety of subjects including coast and seascapes around Portland as well as White mountain landscapes. His White mountain paintings date from 1892 to 1921. His portraits hang in six state capitols including Maine. McConnell was a frequent exibitor at the Portland society of art. Although a prolific artist, he earned the larger part of his income as a virtuoso banjo player and minstrel man. Condition; This painting has been in same home for well over 80yrs.
