Here for your bidding consideration is this original family owned George McConnell oil on board painting of a little boy during the victorian era as seen signed in the bottom left corner Geo McConnell dated 1889. Although the signature is hard to read it is there. This painting is an original oil on board signed by a well known listed Maine artist. This painting is quite folky as seen and the little boy is aged 2-3 years and he is quite charming. George McConnell 1852-1929 was born in Steubenville OH in 1852 and died in Portland, Maine in 1929. He studied portraiture in Philadelphia and New York. He also studied landscape painting with George Inness and continued his art training at the academy Julien in Paris. In 1883 at age of thirty one, McConnell settled in Portland Maine and did comercial work that he sold at various hotels and resorts. He painted a great variety of subjects including coast and seascapes around Portland as well as White mountain landscapes. His White mountain paintings date from 1892 to 1921. His portraits hang in six state capitols including Maine. McConnell was a frequent exibitor at the Portland society of art. Although a prolific artist, he earned the larger part of his income as a virtuoso banjo player and minstrel man. Condition; This painting has been in same home for well over 80yrs. It hung on the wall for a very long time and most likley needs some cleaning and possibly some repairing as seen.The painting is in its original gilt frame as seen.There is chipping around the frame as seen in the photo's and the frame needs some restoration as seen.There are two paper labels on the back of the painting one you can read as seen and the other on the top of the frame I can not make out. The frame with the painting in it is about 46 1/4" tall X 34" across X about 3" thick as seen. Although the frame is completely suitable for restoration I would be willing to seperate the two if the buyer just wants the painting without the frame. If the buyer only wants the painting please wait for an invoice with accurate shipping costs for the paintings weight without the frame. Although the weight will change without having the frame inside the size of the shipping package will not change. Please be advised the painting is in it's original frame and has never been removed from it. As a result removing the painting may cause slight paint loss where the painting touches the frame along the edges.
