Antique German Bisque Kestner Doll Height: 16" Marks: "154, dep 5 " (wiggle is unreadable) on back of shoulderhead; both head and body are by Kestner Age: Antique, c1890-1905 Doll Details: This is really a stunning example of a 154- by far one of Kestner's most popular molds, and it's easy to see why! She really has a lovely and very well painted shoulderhead, with her original threaded swirled blue paperweight working sleep glass eyes- these are really fine eyes, with black rings around the blue and perfectly matched irises. She has a delicately painted peach open mouth and bright teeth, and well rounded cheeks with their painted pink blush; a good deal of dust and dirt to crevices. She has her lower lashes painted, a slight chin indented dimple, and fashionably thick multistroke brown eyebrows that are also lightly molded, a rare touch found in Kestners. No chips or cracks to head. S he also retains her original plaster pate still glued on! Her fine white kid leather sawdust stuffed body with articulated leg joints is the original, with fine red stitching on the bodice- and remarkably, not a single repair! A light glue mark to one ankle, but it has not been restitched so far as we can see- rare indeed!. The body is really in quite good condition, and the leather is still nice and pliable. And look at those sewn Kestner toes! read more
