This is a 16" German Armand Marseille bisque socket head on a jointed composition body. She is marked on the back of her head: 1894, AM 4 DEP. She has multi-stroke eyebrows, set brown glass eyes with painted lashes, red eye and nose dots, an open mouth with four teeth and a red felt tongue. Her face coloring is original and is perfect. She has a repair on the left side of the socket part of her head and a hairline and repaired crack running to it from the head top opening (photo # 10). It's been reinforced on the inside of the head and is stable. She's on an excellent jointed body that appears to be an old replacement and has been painted. I bought this doll at auction, and her clothing came with her. She's on a teenage French style body with a French style dress but the opinion is that these 1894 doll heads may have been made by A.M. for the American French market. The company painted these heads two different ways. Some had single stroke eyebrows (more commonly a German style) and some had heavier multi-stroke eyebrows (a French style). This doll has the more French style eyebrows, so the French body and clothing seem right. Her underwear seems relatively new, but her custom made dress is quite old.
