Antique 18c John Miers Man Painted Portrait Silhouette Description Up for auction is a wonderful antique, late 1700's, John Miers, Painted Portrait/Silhouette, that was acquired from a recent estate sale. John Miers (1756-1821), was the most famous profilist or painter of Silhouettes in Britain. His profiles are painted all black, with fabulous details of hair, muslins, and veils, that are touched-in by black, thinned to a smoky gray. This silhouette is of a Man and it's in a wooden frame and it's covered with convex glass that's accented with burnished gold. The back has the original Miers Studio Paper Cover and this is covered with some sort of cellophane that must have been added later to protect the paper. Printed on the Studio Paper is; "Miers, Profile-Painter & Jeweller, No. 111 opposite Exeter Change Strand London....the rest is in very old English. The frame measures; 6-1/2" x 5-1/4" and the oval measures; 4-5/8" x 3-1/2" and the portrait measures; 2-5/8" x 1-1/2". T is some minor wear to the frame but the portrait is in very good condition with no stains. Payment Please pay within 7 days of auction close.
