Mid to late 1800's Continental European Probably from Portugal Gold & Amethyst Necklace & Earring Set This is a very unique set! 9 oval amethysts - 4 on each side and one dangles from the large emerald shaped stone The oval stones measures just about 5/8" long and are faceted The emerald stone is 1/2"l x 3/8"w There are 8 shell like charms in between the oval stones The main stone is set between decorative scroll like gold and then set in a shape almost like a hear with a crown like figure on the top. The chain is what I would call a rounded box chain The clasp is what I believe to be a tube or trombone style There has been a linked piece with an o ring clasp added to it for extra security The necklace weighs 20 grams The back of the gold surrounding the stones is hollow The earrings are post back and it appears these were made from two stones taken from the necklace The length of the necklace is 7 5/8" The drop is approximately 7" More details: The necklace including the chain and drop pendants is 7 1/2" It fits like a choker. The chain itself is 3 3/4" long on each side and the pendant section is 8" long while spread flat. My jeweler and I both tested these pieces for 18+ k gold And she verified that the stones are genuine There are marks on the older clasp which appear to be a crown and a rectangular shaped box This is where I found that this piece is possible from Portugal It is from a family members father's estate and my finding would be correct since his parents spent time in Portugal and Spain.
