Antique 18th-19th Century Persian Shamshir Saber A 18th-19th century Persian shamshir having a steel (no visible evidence of a pattern which would denote Damascus steel but the blade is worn) blade and a non-magnetic crossguard assembly that I believe to be bronze, a bone covered tang, and a decorative stamped silver or bronze (the metal has a slight reddish/yellow cast) pommel cap. The overall length, following the shape of the blade, is 35.25". Blade length is 31.5". Provenance: The gentleman that I acquired this piece from purchased it from the Pabst mansion in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at an estate sale held there in 1975-76. The Pabst mansion was completed in 1892 for the Captain Frederick Pabst family (founder of Pabst Brewing Company).
