About me: I have spent the past 30 years collecting fine art,antiquities and collectables from Florida to New England and as far west as Colorado. I searched flea markets,garage sales,antique shops,auction houses and private sellers. I have accumulated more than I could ever properly display.So,I have decided to let go of some of my treasures and pass them on to the next generation of collectors. I will describe each item to the best of my ability and rest assure each and every item is exactly as described . Up for auction here is : A fantastic 18th/19th Century Wood Carved Santos Figure. I found this wonderful 200 year old wood carved santos figure in a box of miscellaneous items at the flea market approximately 20 years ago. I had the figure mounted on a composition form made to look like a rock mounted on a piece of Victorian mable.The figure is beautifully carved. The figure is missing one arm and the other forearm.This absolutely does not detract from the overall age and beauty of this 200+ year old figure. The figure is carved from a solid piece of wood. Many of the later carvings were carved from multiple pieces of wood with attached arms. The figure appears to be Christ. The figure retains much of its original painted red and gray surface paint. These figures are some of the most fascinating artifacts from the Spanish presence in Central and South America. These handcarved wooden sculptures of saints and holy figures are the legacy of the Spanish spiritual conquest of Latin america and have been created from the 16th century. The figure(without base)measures 10 5/8" h x 4"w. The figure and base together measure 13 5/16" h. A fantastic 18th/19th Century Wood Carved Santos Figure.
