This is a nice hand wrought antique shutter dog. It was found in the basement of 211 Prince street in old town Alexandria Va. During an estate sale in January of 1992. As a note of interest Dr. Elisha Cullen Dick lived in this house in 1801. Dr. Dick was one of the attending physicians at the death of George Washington at Mt. Vernon. It was he who at the precise time of death went over to the clock on the mantle in Washingtons bed chamber and cut the weight cord stopping the clock. I'm not connecting this shutter dog to Dr Dick, just pointing out an interesting fact. Any way piece measures 71/2" long and shows good craftsmanship obviously done by a talented black smith of the time, thanks for looking.Posted with eBay Mobile
