Antique Dietz Kerosene or Oil Lantern Lamp This is an old lantern similar to the type used on the railroads. The top is marked "DIETZ DESIGN PAT'D MAY-7-12 D-LITE" on the top and " DIETZ D-LITE NEW YORK U.S.A." on the base. It is an unusal model, because it is made so the top lifts to expose the burner instead of the globe lifting. The glass globe is marked "G1" or CI" on one side. I am not an expert, but from my research on the net I believe this model was only made between 1913 - 1919 and was the most expensive lantern offered by Dietz at the time. It is in its original condition and has not been painted, so it is rusty throughout. I have not attempted to open the top or clean it (since I don't know what I'm doing and I don't want to break anything). I have no idea if it actually works. It is about 13.5" tall, not counting the handle. This would be an interesting addition to a collection of railroad memorabilia or antique lamps! I try to describe items to the best of my knowledge.
