Fresh from an estate in Lexington Massachusetts, this beautiful antique Underwood No. 5 typewriter was carefully stored under its cover for many years. The serial number is 667488 which dates it to 1914 when they started with number 655,000. The back plate which lists the manufacturing dates shows entries up to April 1913. The keys all strike. The space bar and carriage work. T is a black ribbon. The typewriter measures 13 1/4" wide by 12" deep by 8" tall. Its a very handsome piece with the detailing on the legs which make it looks like an elegant piece of furniture. The keys all appear to be fine. I was amazed to find a red and black key along with fractions. The F key appears darker than the others but I don't know if its just dirty or worn. Please email me with any questions or requests for additional photographs. This typewriter is being sold as is so please examine the pictures carefully and ask any questions before you bid. Thank you for your interest. It does weigh 26 pounds by itself but if you collect typewriters you are probably used to higher postal charges. I've added two more pictures to answer the question about the shift key and the request for a typing sample. I don't know if the ribbon is threaded correctly but the sample shows that the typewriter is functional. The shift key is fine as well.
