We are delighted to offer you this fine antique, sterling silver and genuine Irish Connemara marble clover leaf and wishbone brooch , in very good condition! This is a wee treasure, mind, but simply brimming with the luck of the Irish! It is fully hallmarked and signed, with the trio of marks usually seen on sterling pieces from Britain, although Ireland is not part of Great Britain, according to one lass ,who took great offense when i said so, once! The brooch measures 1 5/16" in length, and is 5/8" wide. The wishbone is three dimensional, too, with a depth of 1/8". On the front, we see a pair of three leaf clovers, on stems, set with the beautiful pea green marble that is found only in the Connemara mountains, on the Emerald Isle! T is no damage to the marble- no chips, cracks or scratches- and ,as you can see in the last picture, they are polished to a reflective sheen! The clovers span the wish bone, both symbols of good fortune among the Victorians . You might wonder, why not a 4 leaf clover? Well, the three leaf clover represents the Holy Trinity, which to us Roman Catholics, is made up of the Holy Father, the Son ( Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. The back of the brooch is equipped with a sturdy hinged pin, complete with roll-over safety clasp, and we also see the marks and words, ' Sterling- Irish ' , on back of one clover, and, on one arm of the wish bone, three wee cartouches representing the sterling assay mark for Ireland, ' the lady on the throne ' , and the harp, and a lower case ' f ', which corresponds to the year this was made...which would be 1921, according to my research. T is also an inventory number ? stampred tin, ' 1467'. And i just discovered, that when the pin is hinged closed, , an extension of it, by the hinge, can serve as a place to put a chain, so it can be worn as a pendant! Brilliant! Weight is 4.3 grams. This little treasure is simply adorable, and the warm patina of the stelrign silver adds to its antique charm. Thank you so much for your interest!
