A uction D escription Up for auction is another fine pair of authentic and original Hubley Burro Bookends. These original cast iron pieces are from around 1925 and have been entitled "Docile Jocelyn." Interestingly, just as Hubley pieces have grown in value and appeal over the years, so has the name Jocelyn, which means happy and joyful. According to the US Census, when these were made in the mid twenties, Jocelyn was an uncommon name with less than 100 women possessing it; today, t are over 1000.First introduced into the Desert Southwest by Spaniards in the 1500s, the Burro was prized for its hardiness in arid regions. They have an uncanny ability to locate food in barren terrains and can carry heavy burdens for days on end. They are compassionate, hardworking, and loyal animals. These simple, beautiful pieces are accurate representations of the Burro, with the long, cocked ears, short manes, and unique faces. The little Burros offered are even shown with their typical saddlebags. You will find that these bookends are in excellent condition with a rich bronze and verdigris finish that remains intact after all these years. They are good size pieces, measuring 4 ½" Tall and 5" Wide, and each Burro weighs over 3 lbs. Both are marked on the back, "Made In USA," and have the original Hubley number, 492. Take a look at the actual photos below to see what is being offered. These could be ideal for the Collector and Bookend Enthusiast.
