You are viewing a ANTIQUE/1919 1st Edition "Modern Psychical Phenomena" Occult Book by "Dr. Hereward Carrington" and published by "Dodd, Mead and Company" in New York. Manly Palmer Hall (March 18, 1901 – August 29, 1990) was a Canadian-born author and mystic. He is perhaps most famous for his 1928 work, T he Secret Teachings of All Ages . Manly P. Hall was born 1901 in Petersborough, Ontario to William S. Hall, a dentist t, and Louise Palmer Hall, a chiropractor or and member of the Rosicrucian Fellowship. In 1919 Hall moved from Canada to Los Angeles, California, and in that year was ordained to the Church of the People . Hall became sufficiently known and respected as a lecturer and interpreter of the writings of the ancients, and the most useful and practical elements of classical idealism. In 1934, Hall founded the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) in Los Angeles, California that was dedicated to the study of religion, mythology, metaphysics, and the occult. In his over 70-year career, Hall delivered approximately 8,000 lectures in the United States and abroad, authored over 150 books and essays, and wrote countless magazine articles. This book is not in perfect shape but I will describe it and give you as many details as I can: This book has 127 pages and is a illustrated hardcover. This is a very large book measuring approximately 10 1/2" x 15 3/4". The front and back cover are original and are in fair shape but there is some wear. The binding has separated but there are all of the pages and it will need to be rebound to be in good shape. There is some aging or browning to the pages and some of the corners of some pages are bent or missing. There is a name of the owner written with Manly P. Hall's signature and there are some markings throughout the book, (see the pics). All in all, the book is in what I would consider to be in fair condition and is very readable. This is a great book with lots of history!!! This rare paranormal accessory was found at an estate sale in San Francisco about fifteen years ago along with many other genuine occult items. Please look at my feedback to see some of the other rare and genuine Occult collectibles that came from this estate. The house that these items came from was located at 156 12th Ave in San Francisco and a pparently the house, (which is no longer there), was owned by a doctor since the early 1900's and had many occult items that I am listing. The doctor was a German immigrant whose family originally settled in the Pennsylvania Dutch area and who eventually moved to San Francisco to study medicine. I'm still unsure who actually collected and owned these items, since the doctor supposedly had many residents residing in his house, because he rented out the property. At least, that is what the family told me when I purchased them. Could be that they just didn't want to sour the good doctors' name after his passing.
