Antique 1933 Art Deco Inlaid Marquetry End Table Stand Direct from England, this listing is for a most unusual end table, with fabulous hand designed woodworking and construction. The styling is obviously art deco, with the triangular post and octagon shaped top and the deco styling is mirrored in the black painted edging on the platform base and the black painted edging on the octagon top. BUT THE STORY ON THIS PIECE IS ALL ABOUT THE TABLETOP --- The veneer top reflects outstanding woodworking skill, with a combination of skillful artwork, inlaid marquetry and pyrography (wood-burning). The burl in the veneer even has some bird's eye portions that wonderfully represent the rolling grass on the hillside!! The wintery scene features a small village, with a group of houses and a church with a steeple, sitting beneath rolling hills with a forest in the far distance. The artwork is signed "G Tomicick, 1933". I do not know if this is completely an original creation or if this artwork was designed from a precut marquetry picture kit from the 1930s. Either way, it is breath-taking and certainly a piece that will command attention in any room in your home or office!! The table is 26"H x 26 ¼" x 19"; Footprint on the floor is 12 ¾" x 10". The table is in good condition for its age, sturdy and strong with normal signs of age and use, dings and scratches and other imperfections. The table top is in VERY good condition, with no major damage to the design, no water burns or other detractions.
