This little book is by Whitman and illustrated by Suzanne. Other than some minor wear on the corners of the cover, this wonderful old book is in excellent condition. The pages are clean, unmarked and free of rips, tears, or folded pages. The history of Sambo dates back to 1899, a storey about an Indian boy written by a Scot - Helen Bannerman. A children's favorite for half a century became controversial because of the name Sambo considered a racial slur in some countries. The book was first published in the US in 1927 and eventually publication was stopped in 1988. This book is a piece of literary history never to be published again and an pristine example for the collector.
