Antique Portrait Plates

~ Napoleon & Josephine ~

This auction is for a magnificent antique portrait plate set. Circa nineteenth century.

Featured on these exquisite and rare cabinet plates are early portraits of French military and political leader Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his beautiful wife the Empress Josephine, both depicted in full regalia. The portraits boast exceptional detail and still vibrant colors. The plates have a raised ornate border with fleur-de-lis type decoration.

Both plates are signed on the reverse with the trademark of Zeh Scherzer & Company of Bavaria. The word "Mignon" appears above the name.

The plates are in very nice collectible condition. The Napoleon plate has a tiny manufacturing flaw at the rim. This is not a chip as it is covered by the gilding on the edge. The underside of the same plate has a few nicks as pictured.

The plates measure approximately 9" in diameter.
