UPDATE: I ADDED A PHOTO OF THE BOWL UNDER A BLACKLIGHT. You can see that it fluoresces due to the uranium oxide content of the glass (thus demonstrating that this is indeed genuine Burmese Glass). The picture doesn't do it justice. It's a really bright green.Up for your bidding pleasure is a super rare genuine Burmese Glass bride's bowl with original matching Pairpoint triple-footed stand in quadruple silver plate. This beautiful example of early art glass is in fantastic condition for it's age. No chips, cracks, or repairs to the glass. There is a darkened portion at the base of the bowl, which I have been led to believe was likely from the original casting of the glass as it appears to be within the glass itself. The hand painted enameling retains it's luster and is intact all around the bowl along with the gold highlight around the bowl's ruffled rim. The stand - though tarnished from age - is in fantastic condition. I have made no attempt to polish the stand, as that is a job best left to someone more qualified than I, and I also do not know if that would detract from the item's value.The bowl does not have any maker's marks on it, and from what I have read and been told, this makes it an early example of either Mt Washington or Thomas Webb and Sons art glass as neither placed any marks on their early Burmese works and they were the only two companies licensed to manufacture it at the time.The stand was made by Pairpoint Mfg. Co, and is design number 2261. It is labeled as being quadruple plate, and has the maker's mark consisting of a "P" inscribed diagonally inside of a square.This item is from my Mother's estate, and my Great Aunt's estate before that (she passed at the age of 93 in 1986). I have struggled with finding particulars related to this piece, and the only valuation reference I have been able to find was of a similar piece done in 2011 of $8,000 as listed on the Kovel's website.Please note that I am NOT an expert in any way on antique glassware. What information I have is that which can be readily found on the Internet and in antiques books. I would invite anyone viewing this item who can clear up any details to please send me a message so that I can more accurately describe the item for prospective buyers.General information on Bride's Bowls as listed on Kovel's, which leads me to believe that this basket predates 1890:"Bride's baskets or bride's bowls are usually one-of-a-kind novelties made in American and European glass factories. They were made in almost every color of art glass and most have silver-plated holders with handles. They were especially popular about 1880 when the decorated basket was often given as a wedding gift. Cut glass baskets were popular after 1890. All bride's baskets lost favor about 1905."Further information on Burmese Glass manufacturing from Wikipedia:"Burmese glass is a type of opaque colored art glass, shading from yellow to pink.[1] It is found in either the rare original "shiny" finish or the more common "satin" finish. It is used for table glass and small, ornamental vases and dressing table articles.It was made in 1885 by the Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA.[1] Burmese glass found favor with Queen Victoria. From 1886, the British company of Thomas Webb & Sons was licensed to produce the glass.[1] Their version, known as Queen's Burmeseware, which was used for tableware and decorative glass, often with painted decoration. Burmese was also made after 1970 by the Fenton art glass company.[2]Burmese is a uranium glass. The formula to produce Burmese Glass contains uranium oxide with tincture of gold added.[1] The uranium oxide produced the inherent soft yellow color of Burmese glass. Because of the added gold, the characteristic pink blush of color of Burmese was fashioned by re-heating the object in the furnace (the "Glory Hole"). The length of time in the furnace will determine the intensity of the color. Strangely, if the object is subjected to the heat again, it will return to the original yellow color.On the queen's visit to the United States, the Mount Washington glass company made for her a tea cup and saucer. When it was presented to her, she exclaimed, "It looks like a Burmese sunset." That is where the name Burmese came from for the glass. The design painted on the cup and saucer by the famous Mt.
