An antique Victorian solid oak writing desk/spool cabinet combined, probably used in a millenary shop and made for or by J.&P. Coats, featuring brass pulls on the drawers which are labeled for their contents. This piece is 32 3/4" in length, 23" in depth, 17 1/4" in height and weighs approximately 75 pounds. The top lifts up to reveal a space for storage of papers, etc.. The desk part of this piece has a gallery for an inkwell, and other writing paraphanaila. It is marked on the back with the J. & P. Coats Logo. The condition is good, with the black leather writing top having been worn and ripped with time and use. The brass pulls are tarnished and t are ink marks around the top gallery as well as some bleaching of the wood on the gallery in spots.
