ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY HAND CARVED HARDWOOD PICTURE FRAME

A most unusual find is this Hand Carved and Assembled 12 opening Picture Frame. We believe the wood is Walnut. It is completely assembled, cut, and carved to hold 12 CDV's (Carte de Viste Photographs) which measure 2.5 by 4 inches in size. It has period small round head nails holding many of the crossing pieces together and many extra nails w the pictures were held in place. This would be the perfect compliment to display 12 of your best Antique Civil War or period CDV's in. It has a period large round wire hanger on the top. We obtained this piece while on a recent trip passing through the great state of Virginia. T is pencil writing on the front display surfaces which the new owner can decide to leave as is or remove but the writing is the names of three people, likely young school children some time in its past. The names appear to be Mathias Shultz Henkel, Martha Rebecca Birkle, and Margaret Emily Miles. Perhaps someone out t will recognize one or all of them. The Frame has two accent pieces remaining or four original ones on the front. These two could easily be removed to balance out the look of the frame or two more could be made up. Other than these missing pieces it is a pretty solid piece that has survived through the ages. Measurements are approximately 16.38 by 17.75 inches overall, picture viewing sizes from the front measure approximately 2 by 3.5 inches, picture openings from the back measure approximately 2.5 by 4 inches. Frame measures approximately 1.25 inches thick. We do not believe you will come across very many frames of this style and period but we are offering it with a low opening bid and reasonable reserve. One of the many Antique Frames we will be offering in the coming weeks.
