Hello.. up for auction we have a beautiful mid to late 19th Century photo album FULL of tintypes and CDVs. 24 pages, t are 60 tintypes and 30 cdvs (cardstock). It is 7 1/2" x 51/2" x 2 1/2" . This album came from a gallery called "GAY'S GALLERY OF ART", J. F. Suddard Operator, Fall River, Mass. It has a brown cover, with gold accents and white glass beads decorating each corner. The 2 brass closures are absolutely perfect and very nice looking, with a flower and leaf motif in the center of each one, and the same glass beads as on the cover, one on each clasp. (use the supersize feature to see the detail) . On the spine it says "Album". The spine binding is in tact completely, but the leather part that says "Album" needs to be glued back down, as it came unglued from the binding, and t is a small strip separated from that part, but it is present w it belongs, just loose. When closed, the pages together have a carved out flower design on each side. Very pretty, gold page edges ! Inside, t is the "Index to Photographs" ( not filled out) and then the photos. Each page is bordered with scrolls in gold. Some of the pages have two large cut out openings, and t are some different designs and sizes. T are some oval openings, some tiny oval openings, some arched openings with border decorations, some embossed paper, with stars, or scrolls, a lot of different designs. I don't know if this is a family portrait album, it could be a Rhode Island or Massachusetts family, or if it is a sample photo album from the Studio. I don't see any identification, and I did not remove the photographs from the pages. T are quite a lot of people at different ages; from babies, through childhood, young adults, adults, seniors. T are some family portraits, a lot of children. ( one of my favorites is an adorable boy with a hand colored bow tie). T are women in what I think are mourning dresses, men in suits, and one man with a pith helmet on. The clothing, hairstyles and backgrounds are so interesting and beautiful. The photos and pages are in excellent condtion. T are only a few (3-6) photos only that have some damage-slight peeling, or deterioration. It is in wonderful condition, a pleasure to look through. This is a beautiful collection of photographs in a beautiful album. I am always happy to answer your questions, so ask away ! Thank you for looking ... :) Stay warm ***** Adding to the description of this item: most of the tin types are tinted. Also, t are 31 of the 1/4 to 1/6th plates , 19 of the 1/9th plates, and 10 of the 1/16th, tiny little ovals. The rest are the cdv's. ********
