PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: This Chinese pouch, from the Qing Dynasty, also known as the Manchu Dynasty, is from the 19th century. These pouches or purses were often used for holding spice, coins, etc. Other uses for these drawstring pouches were to hold scented cotton or aromatic herbs to sweeten the sometimes putrid air. The lower part of the drawstring pouch is made of a brocade or fine needlework often with symbols of good fortune, wealth, etc., worked into the design. The top part is finely pleated. A fine leather cord is attached to suspend the pouch from the girdle or belt. Two knotted leather drawstrings ending in long tassels hung from each side and decorated with coral colored beads. This piece still retains its original cotton batting inside. Please view all of the photos as they are part of the description. CONDITION : There are issued along the pleated top, which has torn away a bit. Also, some holes to the fabric of the pouch which can be repaired. These are shown in the photos above. No stains or odor. My home is a smoke free environment. MEASUREMENTS : Pouch measures 4 in. x 3 1/4 in.; drawstrings measure approximately 6 1/4 in. long; strap is 7 in. long.
