Offered for auction is a beautiful hand painted button resting in the original box. The button is hand painted on a wafer. The mid 19th century impressionistic painting features a profile of a lady with braids and bows. The convex glass covers the painting and is framed with a brass back. The button is 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 1/8 inches deep. The fine old box was made by A. Fischer's & Co. Jewelers, Main Street, Port Elizabeth. Fischer's was founded in 1862 and is still doing business in South Africa. The box is 2 7/8 inches squared and 5/8 inches high. The box is in good condition with only minor wear.
