We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Small Antique Oil on Canvas Painting of Sailboats in the Moonlight signed G.N.M / 84. This painting appears to be in it's original wood frame with decorated gesso and gold gilding, we did not try to remove the canvas from it. The frame has a little section on the lower left hand corner where there is gesso missing. There is minor bit of gilding missing on the lower right inside corner of the frame. The wood gesso frame appears to be handmade, the top right and lower left corners have gaps, this is due to the original cuts in the 4 pieces making the frame. The painting is signed in the lower right G.N.M./84. We do not know who the initials stand for and we assume the 84 is for 1884. The canvas looks to be hand framed and is nailed to the wood. The outside frame measures 18 1/2" x 12 1/2" and the inside section covering all of the canvas measures 12 3/4" x 6 3/4" . The outside wood frame that the canvas is nailed to measures 13" x 7". The painting is in excellent shape with light crazing throughout and possibly could need to be cleaned. A great maritime painting depicting a large sailboat in the forefront with full sail towing a smaller boat and a boat of apparently the same size in the background in gray. You can make out a point of land to the left with 2 outlines of sailboats
