~ ANTIQUE THREE GALLON BLUE COBALT FLORAL DECORATED 15" STONEWARE CHURN c1865 ~ ~ ANTIQUE THREE GALLON BLUE COBALT FLORAL 15" STONEWARE CHURN c1865 ~ ~ 147 Year Old Stoneware Crock in Amazing Condition/Folky Blue Cobalt Floral Decoration ~ ~ NO RESERVE AUCTION ~ This auction gives you the opportunity to own a wonderful 147 year old fresh to market blue cobalt decorated salt glazed stoneware churn. A primitive example made of a higher grade and very heavy light tannish/grey stoneware dating to c1865! This is an early piece by an unknown maker with a large incised " 3" just above the beautiful blue cobalt floral decoration. A fantastic tall & heavy three gallon stoneware churn in near mint condition. The only distraction is a small 2" line at the inside front of the rim. It does not go thru and appears to be a natural firing flaw done at time of manufacture. This gorgeous example features a folky light blue cobalt planted flower decoration complete with vine, leaves and two blooms amde with wide full strokes. Done in a beautiful light transparent blue cobalt with no frying, a real plus! A true example of early folk art in a three gallon churn. A true 147 year old primitive chock full of crudity and character! Note the two large hand shaped and applied elephant ear handles at each side and the charming drooping uneven rim.
