Approximate Dimensions:5 1/8" Width Of Case This miner's scale was acquired recently at an estate auction in rural Michigan. Please rely on the photos provided, what visual description I am able to offer, but primarily use your own better knowledge and expertise in making your bidding evaluations. I make a point of finding interesting items to present in this auction format, but I'm not always aware of the finer points. Ask questions when need be. Beyond an initial, light cleaning for this presentation this item is being presented just as I found it and is sold "as is". My belief is that this scale was used in the 1800s, around the time of the California gold rush. Everything appears to me to be original and authentic. I could find no maker's mark on the tin or imprinted on the apparatus. The weights have some markings but they appear to have more to do with measurment. I think the small pans that would hold the weights and gold are made of brass. T is surface rust on the supporting metal but it is solid. The cords
