eBay's largest sellers use AuctionLynxx to increase sales... shouldn't you? ~ ANTIQUE SALT GLAZED 4GAL F B NORTON WORCESTER MA CROCK HUGE PARROT c1860 ~ ~ Rare Deep Blue Cobalt Dotted Parrot on a Plume ~ ~ Fabulous No Reserve Auction ~ Presenting an extremely nice and huge blue cobalt folk art Parrot on a Plume decorated four gallon elephant ear handled crock made by and stamped "F. B. NORTON & CO WORCESTER, MASS 4". The clearly stamped makers mark is highlighted with blue cobalt and was used between 1858-1877. The F stands for Frank Norton, one of the earliest of the Norton clan who ran his stoneware business with Frederick Hancock of Bennington, Vt. The blue cobalt bird decoration is excellent with a deep, rich and thickly applied blue cobalt. This is the thickest and darkest deep blue cobalt that I have ever seen with absolutely no frying whatsoever! Expertly designed and hand painted with great detail showing a huge parrot on a multi-featd plume. This piece features the rare and very hard to find dotted feathers on the back of the parrot. The salt glaze was expertly applied and left a thick shiny coat. The top rim is extra thick and wide. You don't stumble across an antique decorated crock from the mid 1800s with a better-done and extremely large parrot on a plume design! Condition: Close to excellent. The blue cobalt decoration is a shiny deep blue and one of the thickest and finest applications I've ever seen with no frying or bubbling whatsoever . Has a nice shiny coat of evenly applied salt glaze. Top rim is perfect with not the slightest fleabite. Both elephant ear handles and the base of the crock is rock-solid with one chip on the very bottom at the back. It cannot be seen with the crock standing and does not affect the structural integrity of the piece at all. One natural potstone mark on the back. The Albany Slip interior is thickly applied and excellent. Normal light staining & t consistent with age and use. The only condition issues are two fine hairlines. One is at the top rim behind the left handle and the other is a superfine hairline at the left bottom front that can barely be seen. I mention these minor defects in the interest of full disclosure and are minimal at best. Please see pictures for further detail... Dimensions: 11" high with a 12" slightly concave diameter base. The wide top rim diameter is 12" across. Weight: 14lbs 2ozs. Everyone loves an auction, so I'm going to take a chance and offer this extraordinary showstopper in true auction format with NO RESERVE ! Others offer pieces like this at $1295 and higher but NEVER at auction. 's your chance...fair game for everyone! Truly a magnificent piece of very rare antique Norton blue cobalt bird-decorated stoneware in the very collectible four gallon size. It will make a stunning addition/centerpiece to your collection. Thank you for looking over my listing...
