This iron arrowhead dates to about 1300 A.D. and the time of the crusades. At that time warriors wore leather and some chain mail armor. This is a transitional form arrow with the ability to penetrate leather or an unprotected part of the body and well as pass through the links of mail. Later arrows had the ability to penetrate armor but only the thinnest plates such as on the extremities. Those later arrows are of a completely different form. This arrow head would have been used with the long bow and the only complete arrows of the type are those from the Mary Rose and the Shaftsbury arrow which lie on the roof of Shaftsbury cathedral for 700 years. Even the heads such as this one are very rare and many museums do not have a single example. We formed a nice collection over the years but are no longer able to find any. T is much misinformation about arrow heads on the internet. You will see the same types described as a variety of ages and origins. The definitive reference for these is Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era 1050-1350 which relies on archeological finds and datable images such as stone monuments for its data. Total length is just over 3 1/4”. Condition is as shown. 700g
