This is an antique fob crafted in 9k yellow gold fully hallmarked. It features a natural blood stone that is difficult to photograph but it clearly has the red spots in the deep forest green of the stone. The stone is smooth and polished, free of scratches or chips.Above the oval stone the fob forms a cage of gold intertwined thistle leaves nicely polished, topped with a tall diamond shaped bale where the hallmarks are stamped. With a magnifier I can see a "9k 375" then three separate cartouches each with a small symbol or letter inside that are too small to even describe. Because of the thistle leaves I am inclined to believe that this fob is of Scottish origin but that is only my opinion. The fob is 23mm tall from the top of the bale to the bottom of the stone. The stone measures 18mm by 13mm. Blood stones were used since ancient times and were/is believed to have healing properties and were worn by athletes and warriors. Highly valued then, it is rarely seen now in jewelry. Together with the Aquamarine it is the March Birthstone. This is a no reserve auction and the winner is expected to pay within the first 3 days of end of auction.
