This set of six books are stories about a little girl named Addie. Each book is 64 or so pages long ..There is no author listed and there is no date which leads me to believe they are mid 19th century;also they came from the estate of a woman born in 1894. According to information I found at this web site: the books are half of a girls' series written by Cousin Belle but the name behind this pseudonym is not known. They are examples of an early children's fiction series. 5 of this set were also part of a set called the Little Keepsake Library .Also the date of the books would be 1870. The publisher of the books in this auction is Andrew F. Graves of Boston. Each book has a woodcut frontispiece and woodcut illustrations are sprinkled throughout, 3 or 4 per book. The books were clearly owned by children as there are some pencil scribbles inside a few covers and on a few of the pages. I have shown the worse damage in a photo: an ink stain on one page. Otherwise there is yellowing and foxing and other signs of age. The hinges are intact and the binding is solid and the text is clearly readable. The books are: Addie's Birthday Addie's Party Addie's Country Home Addie's Visitors Addie's New Story Book The Magic Lantern Each book measures 5 inches by 3.25 inches and is 0.25 inches thick.
