African Ethnic Fiddle This is an extraordinary primitive musical instrument. It is hand carved (chisel marks evident) from a single piece of wood, hollowed and sculpted to produce sound. The end of the violin is covered in boar hide, acting as a sound box I think. The hide is stretched very tight and bound with a woven band. The strings are of different thicknesses and t is one wire string (probably broken at the peg). T is a carved design on the peg box (see photo). The instrument measures 22" long by 5" wide by 3-1/2" deep at the sound box.The bow is strung with many strands of animal hair and whipped at both ends with string. At the foot (w held by the musician) the whipping continues as a leash to the fiddle. T are two hand formed little bells attached to the bow by thin wire. The bow measures 19" long.T is excellent patina and wear consistent with years of actual use. The fiddle is not playable and the condition is as shown in the photos.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GREAT FEEDBACK ~ LIGHTENING FAST SHIPPING ~ CHECK OUR CUSTOMER COMMENTS!
