We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique stoneware covered jar or crock, finished in dark brown Albany Slip glaze. This jar was beautifully formed and has great color. These are hard to find and are great accent pieces. Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century. It was not considered valuable and as such, was not preserved or well cared for. Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip. The glaze was high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color - it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown. The firing process caused color variations as well. Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the pottery who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing. We will be offering a number of these pieces in the coming weeks. They are great for accenting country or primitive decor. Please be sure to add us to your favorites list and check back often. Condition: Very good - 1 tiny chip on the rim and a few on the cover; no cracks. Size: 3 3/4" diameter at the top, widening to 4 1/2" at the bottom; 6 1/4" tall. Shipping: Buyer to pay actual shipping costs; insurance is included as a handling fee. We are happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases. Please note that customs fees are the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
